The Perfect Base

Base products
Hi everyone!
Today I thought I would share with you my favourite 'base' makeup products that I have been using to achieve the "perfect" base for my makeup!
Firstly, I start off by using the M.A.C Prep + Prime Fix + spray to refresh and hydrate my face, and prepare it for makeup application. This really soothes my skin and creates a dewy base, for the rest of the makeup to stick to.
Secondly, I then prime my face with the Benefit POREfessional primer. This stuff is amazing at smoothing out and minimising pores and making my face feel super smooth and ready for makeup! I love the silicone formula that this product has it glides onto my face making it feel smooth and silky!
The foundation that I have been loving wearing for a good few months now is the L'Oréal Infallible Matte Foundation. I love using this especially during winter as it keeps my foundation on all day due to the matte finish and has great coverage. I also love that this foundation isn't cakey at all and doesn't make my skin looks flat, despite it being a matte foundation. This blends so easily and creates a lovely, even base.
I have this in the shade 11 Vanilla.
To conceal my pesky under-eye circles, I am obsessed with using the Maybelline Eraser Eye concealer in Light. This works miracles at covering up my dark circles and making me look far more awake than I probably actually am. I find that this just glides underneath my under eyes as it has a creamy texture. I find that this doesn't crease under my eyes at all, but I do like to set it with a powder for extra coverage and to lock it in place!
To finish off, after I have applied all of my makeup, I will always spray some more M.A.C Fix + all over my face to set everything in place and make my skin look more alive and dewy.
I love using all of these products to create a lovely, even base for the rest of my makeup to go on.

5 Autumn Lips

Autumn Lip Picks

As I'm sure you are all aware by now, I love red toned lipsticks. I just love lipsticks in general to be perfectly honest with you, but at this time of year I love being able to wear a striking, dark lip. Today, I thought that I would share with you 5 lip choices that I have been loving to wear this Autumn.
(Disclaimer: Apologies in advance for the similar undertones...)

M.A.C Velvet Teddy
M.A.C Velvet Teddy

I couldn't do a Autumn lip picks post without featuring the iconic Velvet Teddy. This is a matte brown-toned nude. I actually find this lipstick to be one of the most moisturising matte lipsticks that I have tried, yet I always do but some lip balm on before applying any lipstick.
I have been wearing this non-stop recently, and it's definitely becoming one of my all-time-favourite lipsticks!
No7 Moisture Drench in 75 Sugar Plum

No7 Moisture Drench in 75 Sugar Plum

I have had this lipstick for years and every Autumn, I always come back to it! I absolutely love this lipstick for this time of year as it's so comfortable to wear due to its creamy, moisturising consistency, yet it adds an instant pop of colour to my lips. This shade is a red-toned brown. Despite this lipstick being very moisturising, it actually stays on my lips all day long and I don't find myself having to reapply it at all! I also find this lipstick to be very pigmented.

Topshop Lips in Inhibition
Topshop Lips in Inhibition

Every time I have worn this lipstick this Autumn, without fail somebody has commented on how lovely the colour is and how much it suits me! I love wearing this lipstick as I automatically feel very autumnal and put together.
The lipstick is a striking dark berry shade, which appears quite like a purple shade on the lips. It applies very easily and smoothly with a matte finish. This colour is extremely pigmented, so I have to use a lip liner (Topshop lip liner in 'Deception') with this, to avoid it leaking and somewhat staining around my lips!
I have also featured this in my Top 5 Drugstore Lipsticks post (read here)

 No7 Moisture Drench in Mulberry
No7 Moisture Drench in Mulberry

This is my ‘go-to’, easy to wear lipstick for this time of year. This goes with most makeup looks and sits on my lips really nicely, due to the moisturising formula. This lipstick gives a satin finish to the lips whilst also having SPF 15, which is an added bonus! Like the other No7 Moisture Drench lipstick featured, this lipstick stays on my lips all day.

NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipstick in Exotic

I love wearing this liquid lipstick for a night out, or days when I want my lipstick to stay on all day. This isn't drying at all yet it stays on my lips really nicely, without creasing. This shade Exotic is a warm, mahogany red.

Top 5 Beauty Essentials for Autumn

Hi everyone,
I am so excited that it's now Autumn! Autumn is definitely my favourite season. Bring on the candles; blankets; dark lips; fairy lights and pumpkin spiced lattes!
However, as the colder weather creeps in, this can wreck havoc with your skin.
Here's a few of my beauty essentials for this Autumn!
Lipstick: MAC Velvet Teddy
MAC Velvet TeddyMAC Velvet Teddy Swatch

I look forward to the Autumn/Winter months just so that I can wear a dark lipstick. My current go-to is the well-loved 'Velvet Teddy' by MAC. It's a matte brown-toned nude, that I have just been wearing non-stop recently.
Deep Conditioner: Argan Oil Hydrating Hair Mask
Argan Oil Hydrating Hair Mask

I love using this about once a week to fully condition and treat my hair. I find the cold weather really dries out my hair, so I find this helps to put lots of moisture back into it.
I also find the ritual of doing this really relaxing, so it's perfect for a bit of pampering on a cold, autumn evening.
Body Lotion: Zoella Beauty Creamy Madly Dreamy
Zoella Beauty Creamy Madly Dreamy
Moisturiser has to be my #1 essential for Autumn/Winter as my skin becomes so dry due to the cold weather. I love using a thick body lotion in Autumn to provide a dollop (lovely choice of wording, I know) of instant moisture to my skin. I have been loving using this one in particular lately as it feels very luxurious! It contains Vitamin E, Aloe and Shea Butter, so it leaves my skin feeling smooth and silky.
Bronzer: Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess
Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess
Bronzer is a staple in my makeup routine in the Autumn, to try and help keep that summer glow just that little bit longer. I find that this bronzer is perfect as it is really buildable and looks very natural, yet adds a hint of colour to my face. I also love how this comes with a pretty large mirror as well!
Lip Balm: Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream Lip Protectant
Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream Lip Protectant
I love this lip balm in particular as it really soothes and lasts a really long time on my lips, unlike other lip balms that just seem to disappear after 30 seconds or so. This small pot is really convenient just to throw in my handbag to use on-the-go to avoid those pesky dry, chapped lips that just scream Autumn/Winter. Of course you could just opt for good ol' Vaseline instead of this example!

What are your Autumn essentials?

The Ultimate Freshers Survival Guide

How to: survive freshers

Hi everyone,

For many, coming to University can be the first time they have not only just lived away from home, but also the first time many people have had to move into a completely new city and flat with complete strangers. Thats how it was for me anyway. Adding to the mix is 'freshers'. Freshers is a week or a fortnight that gives students and introduction into University life.
Freshers can be so much fun and such a great away to meet new people and make amazing memories, but it can also be quite dangerous seeing as you are with strangers and in a unfamiliar setting. So I thought I would share with you my top tips on how to survive freshers!
Side Note: I only just survived freshers as I ended up in A&E with severe freshers flu, so I may not be the best person to be giving out advice!

1) Never go anywhere alone, always try to stay in groups of two or three at least.

2) Never leave your drink unattended. The last thing you want is to get your drink spiked so always carry it, and if you have a bottle, I suggest resting your thumb on top of it.

3) Keep your flat/house key in a safe place. I suggest keeping it in a zipped area of your bag if you can, so that it doesn't fall out when you're rummaging through it!
4) Make sure you're eating enough- it's so easy to get ill during fresher's, you need to fuel your body with the right stuff and keep your immune system up!
5) Leave yourself a glass of water by the side of your bed before you go out. The drunk you will definitely appreciate it!
6) Bring your favourite DVDs to uni and have your favourite snacks on standby for those homesick/hungover days.
7) Don't take out your bank card with you on a night out. Draw out some cash beforehand to limit yourself. Contactless can be your worst enemy on a night out (trust me, I know!).
8) Don't be shy. Make the effort to introduce yourself to someone, as the likiihood is, everyone will be feeling just as nervous as you are!
9) Make sure you have the number of a good taxi company stored in your phone.

10) Don't go out to a club before 11pm as you'll be the only ones there...
11) Make sure you get enough sleep! Fresher's is full of late nights and that's usually one of the ways people get ill, as they don't give their body chance to recover before going out again.
12) Know your limit. Remember that you are most likely in a completely new place with completely new people so be extra aware of yourself and your surroundings!

Finally, make sure you have fun! Fresher's is one of the best weeks (two if you're lucky!) of university and you can make friends and memories for life, so make the most of it, but be safe!

I hope you enjoyed this post and best of luck with uni!

Makeup Storage On A Budget

Makeup Organisation

Hi everyone,
Today I thought I would share with you a couple of affordable storage ideas that I use to store my makeup in. I love storing my makeup away neatly as it's so much easier and quicker to be able to just reach for something rather than having to rummage though your makeup bag when you're in a rush.

Ikea Makeup Brush Pot

I use this white lace pot (which is actually a plant pot!) from Ikea, to store my makeup brushes in. The pot is a part of Ikea's 'SKURAR' series (shop here). I bought this for only £2. Most of my brushes are by 'Real Techniques', but there's some Mac, No7 and a few I got from eBay in there as well. Let me know in the comments if you'd be interested in a post just on my make-up brushes!

Lipstick holder with lipsticks
This acrylic lipstick storage holder is from Tiger. From what I can remember, I think this was around £3.

This acrylic lipstick storage holder is from Poundland, and to state the obvious, it was a pound.

Makeup Drawer
Makeup Storage

I separate a couple of my dressing table drawers using the 'SKUBB' boxes from Ikea (shop here). The boxes come in a set of 6 and contain different sizes. I got these boxes for £5, which I think is great as they are multi-purpose and they help me to organise my makeup easily, and keep my drawers neat and tidy. I have one box for eyeshadows and powers etc, as you can see the picture above, and then a few square ones for other bits and bobs. These boxes also fit nice and neatly in my drawers.

The Ultimate Makeup Remover

Estee Lauder Take It Away Makeup Remover

My go-to makeup remover has to be hands down the Garner Miceller Cleansing water (see review here). However, recently I have been reaching for the Estée Lauder Take It Away makeup remover. I’ve been really enjoying using a cream product to take off my makeup and I love how this one leaves my skin feeling so soft and smooth.

I bought this product from Boots a few weeks ago for £22 and since, I've been using it nearly every day. I apply it onto my face when it is dry and it quickly breaks down all of my makeup-even my mascara! I then wash my face and I usually will use a cotton pad afterwards to just wipe around my eyes to make sure I have removed all of my eye-makeup.

The remover is white and has a lotion-like consistency. It removes all of my makeup really easily and gently. It is perfect for me, as I have sensitive skin. This leaves my skin feeling really soft, like I have already applied moisturiser, which I love as most makeup removers leave my skin feeling dry.

I bought the full size 200ml bottle which isn't really very handy for travelling I must admit, but overall, this has definitely become one of my skincare staples!

What's your go-to makeup-remover?

Battle Of The Mascaras

Maybelline Lash Sensational and Lash Sensational Luscious
One of my holy-grail mascaras has to be the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara. So when I saw the Lash Sensational Luscious mascara in Superdrug the other week, I had to pick it up and give it a go! The Luscious mascara contains an oil blend which nourishes the lashes and promises the same full fan effect as the original Lash Sensational.
Firstly, in terms of packaging, I personally much prefer the new Luscious mascara with it having a matte black finish and rose gold detailing!
Maybelline Lash Sensational vs. Lash Sensational Luscious
The Luscious mascara has a long, straight plastic wand that comes to a tapered point, whereas the original mascara has a long, curved plastic wand. Personally, I prefer the original mascara’s brush as I find that it is better for curling my lashes and creating a nice, separated effect.
In terms of the formula of the two mascaras, I would say they are both an inky black colour and they both dry very quickly. The Luscious mascara applies quite thick and heavy on the lashes, which makes it harder to apply a second coat without it looking clumpy. I would also say that the Luscious mascara is harder to take off than the original Lash Sensational mascara. The Luscious mascara provides a lot more volume and length to the lashes, yet the lashes appear less curled than the original mascara, in comparison.
Overall, I think my favourite is still the original Lash Sensational mascara just because it is a lot easier to apply, with it not clumping up as easily as the new version. I much prefer the brush of the original Lash Sensational. However, the Luscious mascara gives a lot more volume and length the lashes, so I have been enjoying layering the two. I start with the Luscious mascara for the initial volume and length, and then finish off with the original one to separate my lashes. I find that the two in combination work best!
I hope that you found this post useful! Let me know your favourite mascara in the comments.

My Guide To Frizz-Free, Straight Hair

Top 3 Hair Products

Today I thought I would share with you my top 3 products that I use if I'm going to straighten my hair. These products help to make my hair as soft and as shiny as it possibly can be!
I have naturally wavy/curly hair, so when it comes to straightening my hair, it unfortunately requires a lot more time and effort. I don't straighten my hair that often, as I know the heat is not good for my hair, so I usually will just let it dry naturally and have it wavy. However, on the odd occasion, when I want my hair to look relatively presentable, I will straighten it.

First of all, I wash and condition my hair and then put it up in a hair turban for around 20-30 minutes, until it is damp. Always make sure that you wash your hair under cold water, (for as long as you can bear!) after washing your hair, as this makes your hair shiner and helps to reduce frizz.
Then I take my hair out of the hair turban and spritz it with the Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance Leave-in Conditioner spray. This stuff makes my feel super soft and healthy and also makes it smell amazing . This is great to use as it not only protects your hair from heat damage, but it also detangles your hair and makes it easier to brush out.
Then I apply a very small amount of the Salon Chic So Smooth Shine Serum. (When I say to use a small amount of this, I mean a small amount! If you use too much it can make your hair feel oily and look greasy). My hairdresser actually recommended this to me as she uses it herself. I like to use this as it helps my hair to feel sleek and helps to smooth out any frizz.

Before blow-drying my hair, I spray it all over with the TRESemmé heat defence styling spray. I use this to protect my hair from any heat damage from using the hairdryer and straighteners. This also helps to reduce frizz and add shine.

To brush my hair, I use the GhD Paddle brush and the straighteners that I use are the black GhD Platinum styler. These are really good and they are great to use as they are much safer and better for your hair. They literally glide through my hair and straighten it so quickly, and funnily enough, they are recommended for 'hard to style hair'- aka wavy/curly hair!

I hope that you enjoyed this post and maybe picked up some ideas! Let me know what your top hair products are!
